Once
upon a time, in a small village in Italy, there was a magical olive tree. This
tree had the power to grant wishes to anyone who could catch a falling olive
from its branches. However, the tree was protected by a mischievous elf who
would trick anyone who tried to take the olives.
One
day, a poor farmer named Marco decided to try his luck at catching an olive. He
waited patiently under the tree for hours until finally, an olive fell into his
hand. Excitedly, he wished for a big pile of gold. But as soon as he made the
wish, the elf appeared and demanded that Marco give him the gold in exchange
for the olive.
Feeling
cheated, Marco went home and complained to his wife about the elf's trickery.
His wife, who was known for her wit and intelligence, had an idea. She told
Marco to go back to the tree and catch another olive, but this time, he should
wish for a bigger and better olive tree than the one they had at home.
Marco
did as his wife suggested and caught another olive from the tree. He wished for
a beautiful, flourishing olive tree that would make all the villagers jealous.
Once again, the elf appeared and demanded something in exchange for the wish.
But
this time, Marco had an answer. He told the elf that he wished for a tree that
would bear olives only for him and his family, and no one else would be able to
benefit from it. The elf, who was impressed by Marco's cleverness, granted the
wish and disappeared.
The
next day, Marco returned home with a small sapling and planted it in his
garden. Over time, the sapling grew into a magnificent tree that produced the
most delicious and abundant olives in the entire village. Marco and his family
became very rich from selling the olives, and they never had to worry about
money again.
From that day on, Marco and his wife were
known as the cleverest couple in the village, and the elf never tried to trick
them again. And the magical olive tree continued to grant wishes to anyone who
could catch its falling olives, but they were now protected by Marco and his
clever wife.
